FTMO

CFD evaluations since 2015, with a static loss line on the 2-Step

Forex / CFDSince 2015Prague, Czech Republic2 programmes listed on PropScoutingA plan with no consistency capStatic drawdown

FTMO has sold CFD evaluations since 2015 and is based in Prague. It offers two routes to a funded account: the 2-Step FTMO Challenge, with a static 10% maximum loss and a 5% daily limit, and a faster 1-Step with a 3% daily limit and a loss line that trails at the end of each day. Payouts run every 14 days at an 80% or 90% split, and standard accounts restrict news and weekend trading.

01

Overview

Key advantages

  • Operating since 2015, the earliest founding year we have on record for a CFD firm
  • Static maximum loss on the 2-Step route, so there is no trailing line to track
  • No time limit on either evaluation phase
  • 2-Step fee refunded with the first reward (the 1-Step fee is not)
  • Wide platform coverage including cTrader and DXtrade

Key disadvantages

  • The 2-Step split is 80% until the Scaling Plan or Premium Programme lifts it to 90%
  • News restrictions on standard accounts rule out release-driven strategies
  • Standard funded accounts must be flat before the weekend
  • Fees on FTMO's main site are listed in euros, so they cannot be compared directly with US dollar prices

Our assessment

If your priority is a long operating record, FTMO has run evaluations since 2015, earlier than any other CFD firm we have a founding year for. You pay for that with news restrictions that rule out a whole class of strategies. Traders chasing the highest headline split will find higher numbers elsewhere.

Suitable for

  • Traders who weight firm longevity above headline split
  • Swing traders who want a static drawdown line
  • Anyone planning to scale capital over years rather than months

Less suitable if

  • Your edge is trading economic releases
  • You want the cheapest possible entry ticket

03

Leverage

Leverage is quoted per asset class and is usually far lower on indices, metals and crypto than on forex. The programme table below carries the headline figure for each account.

04

Consistency

Caps how much of total profit one trading day may represent. Checked at the payout stage at most firms.

A consistency rule appliesBreach raises the target

On the 1-Step, accounts from orders placed on or after 12 October 2026, and accounts merged on or after that date, follow a Consistency rule: your best day may not exceed 50% of your total profit, both to pass and to be eligible for a reward. Accounts from earlier orders keep the Best Day Rule, which measures the best day against the profit of your winning days only. Going over either limit is not a breach: you keep trading until your best day is back within 50%. The 2-Step has no consistency rule.

News trading

Restricted

News trading is unrestricted during the evaluation. On a Standard FTMO Account you may not open or close trades on the affected instruments from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after selected high-impact releases, though positions opened earlier can be held through them. Swing accounts have no news restriction.

EAs and algorithmic trading

Allowed

EAs and algorithmic trading are allowed if the trading is legitimate and could be replicated on a live account. A third-party EA risks breaching the maximum capital allocation when other traders run the same strategy, and an EA that sends more than 2,000 server requests a day is a forbidden practice.

Weekend holding

Restricted

Positions may be held over the weekend during the evaluation and on Swing accounts. A Standard FTMO Account must be flat shortly before the weekend market close.

Overnight holding

Restricted

Positions may be held overnight during the evaluation and on Swing accounts. On a Standard FTMO Account they must be closed before any market break (rollover) lasting longer than two hours.

Copy trading

Restricted

Accounts are for personal use only: no third party may trade your account or trade in coordination with you. Running an identical strategy across several accounts is subject to the $400,000 maximum capital allocation.

Hedging

Restricted

Opposite positions are allowed within a single account. Holding them across connected accounts or with other traders is forbidden, as is hedging used to spread profit across days to get round the Best Day Rule.

Other restrictions worth knowing

  • No time limit to complete a phase on either route.
  • The 2-Step route uses a static maximum loss: the line never moves once set.
  • The Swing account type, sold only on the 2-Step, removes the news, overnight and weekend restrictions at 1:30 leverage instead of 1:100.

Questions about FTMO

Does FTMO allow news trading?

With restrictions. News trading is unrestricted during the evaluation. On a Standard FTMO Account you may not open or close trades on the affected instruments from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after selected high-impact releases, though positions opened earlier can be held through them. Swing accounts have no news restriction.

Does FTMO allow EAs and automated trading?

Yes. EAs and algorithmic trading are allowed if the trading is legitimate and could be replicated on a live account. A third-party EA risks breaching the maximum capital allocation when other traders run the same strategy, and an EA that sends more than 2,000 server requests a day is a forbidden practice.

Does FTMO have a consistency rule?

On the 1-Step, accounts from orders placed on or after 12 October 2026, and accounts merged on or after that date, follow a Consistency rule: your best day may not exceed 50% of your total profit, both to pass and to be eligible for a reward. Accounts from earlier orders keep the Best Day Rule, which measures the best day against the profit of your winning days only. Going over either limit is not a breach: you keep trading until your best day is back within 50%. The 2-Step has no consistency rule.

What is the FTMO drawdown rule?
