Head to head

FTMO vs FundingPips

A longer track record, or more choice of payout cycle?

This is the clearest trade-off in CFD prop right now. FTMO gives you a decade of operating history and news restrictions; its 2-Step has a static drawdown, an 80% split and a refundable fee, while its 1-Step pays 90% with an end-of-day trailing drawdown and no refund. FundingPips, with three years of history, lets you choose a payout cycle: on its evaluation programmes the weekly and bi-weekly cycles carry no consistency rule, while its help centre gives the 100% split a 35% consistency score; its Zero account applies a 15% score to every payout. Third-party EAs may be used only to manage trades or risk, though an EA you built yourself may trade fully automated if you can prove ownership.

News trading

FTMO
RestrictedNews trading is unrestricted during the evaluation. On a Standard FTMO Account you may not open or close trades on the affected instruments from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after selected high-impact releases, though positions opened earlier can be held through them. Swing accounts have no news restriction.
FundingPips
RestrictedTrades may be held through news. On Master accounts, profit from trades opened or closed within 5 minutes before or after a restricted release, or from 5 minutes before a restricted speech until 5 minutes after it ends, can be deducted, unless the trade was opened at least 5 hours earlier. Deliberately trading news is prohibited, and FundingPips Zero bans opening, closing or holding trades around restricted news.

EAs and algos

FTMO
AllowedEAs and algorithmic trading are allowed if the trading is legitimate and could be replicated on a live account. A third-party EA risks breaching the maximum capital allocation when other traders run the same strategy, and an EA that sends more than 2,000 server requests a day is a forbidden practice.
FundingPips
RestrictedThird-party EAs may be used only as trade or risk managers. An EA you built yourself may trade fully automated if you can prove ownership, for example with its source code.

Copy trading

FTMO
RestrictedAccounts are for personal use only: no third party may trade your account or trade in coordination with you. Running an identical strategy across several accounts is subject to the $400,000 maximum capital allocation.
FundingPips
RestrictedCopying between your own FundingPips accounts, or from a FundingPips account out to your own external account, is allowed. Copying into a FundingPips account from signals or other traders, copying between different users, and third-party account management are prohibited.

Weekend holding

FTMO
RestrictedPositions may be held over the weekend during the evaluation and on Swing accounts. A Standard FTMO Account must be flat shortly before the weekend market close.
FundingPips
RestrictedWeekend holds are allowed in the evaluation on the 1 Step Flex, 2 Step Standard, 2 Step Flex and 2 Step Pro. On their Master accounts, open trades are closed automatically unless the Swing add-on was bought at purchase. FundingPips Zero does not allow weekend holds at all.

Overnight holding

FTMO
RestrictedPositions may be held overnight during the evaluation and on Swing accounts. On a Standard FTMO Account they must be closed before any market break (rollover) lasting longer than two hours.
FundingPips
RestrictedOvernight holds are allowed in the evaluation. On 1 Step Flex, 2 Step Standard, 2 Step Flex and 2 Step Pro Master accounts, the system closes every open trade each day (20:45 to 21:00 UTC in summer, 21:45 to 22:00 UTC in winter) unless the Swing add-on was bought at purchase. A separate swap-free add-on is sold for holding overnight without swap charges.

Hedging

FTMO
RestrictedOpposite positions are allowed within a single account. Holding them across connected accounts or with other traders is forbidden, as is hedging used to spread profit across days to get round the Best Day Rule.
FundingPips
Not allowedHedging is on FundingPips' list of forbidden strategies, along with opposite-account trading, and leads to account termination.

FundingPips

Country restrictions

FTMO
75 listedFTMO excludes nationals and residents of Iran, Syria, Myanmar and North Korea, though nationals of the first three can be accepted with proof of residency and a bank account in the European Economic Area. The rest of the list is a risk-based exclusion by country of residence. Clients in the United States are served by FTMO US, and clients in Australia through an affiliated FTMO entity.
FundingPips
3 listedThese are the countries FundingPips' help centre lists as restricted. US residents cannot use MT5 or cTrader accounts, though Match-Trader is available to US and Canadian residents. Check that a payout method reaches you: bank transfer and Rise have a $500 minimum.

Beyond the numbers

Which one should you buy?

Our assessment of each, labelled as opinion. If the two lists below point at different firms, the honest answer is that you should buy the one whose rules your strategy needs.

FTMO

If your priority is a long operating record, FTMO has run evaluations since 2015, earlier than any other CFD firm we have a founding year for. You pay for that with news restrictions that rule out a whole class of strategies. Traders chasing the highest headline split will find higher numbers elsewhere.

Suitable for

  • Traders who weight firm longevity above headline split
  • Swing traders who want a static drawdown line
  • Anyone planning to scale capital over years rather than months

Less suitable if

  • Your edge is trading economic releases
  • You want the cheapest possible entry ticket

FundingPips

FundingPips suits traders who want no consistency rule on the standard programs. The lineup is genuinely varied rather than cosmetically different, which is a real advantage - and a real risk if you buy the wrong one. FundingPips has operated since 2023, giving it a shorter track record than FTMO.

Suitable for

  • Traders who want no consistency rule on a mainstream firm
  • Traders running an EA they built themselves
  • Traders who want to choose their own risk shape

Less suitable if

  • You want one simple rule set with no program selection
  • You weight a long operating record heavily

FTMO vs FundingPips questions

Is FTMO or FundingPips cheaper?

FundingPips publishes its fees in US dollars and FTMO in euros. PropScouting does not convert currencies, so a like-for-like price comparison is not possible here. Check each firm for its current fee.

Which has the better drawdown rules, FTMO or FundingPips?

FTMO allows 10% total loss on a static basis with a 5% daily limit. FundingPips allows 12% on a static basis with a 3% daily limit.

Which pays a higher profit split?

FundingPips pays more, up to 95% against 90%. Check whether the headline figure is included or a paid upgrade - the matrix above flags which.

Which allows news trading?

FTMO: News trading is unrestricted during the evaluation. On a Standard FTMO Account you may not open or close trades on the affected instruments from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after selected high-impact releases, though positions opened earlier can be held through them. Swing accounts have no news restriction. FundingPips: Trades may be held through news.

Can I trade both firms at once?

Yes, and traders often do to diversify rule risk. The one thing to avoid is running correlated or hedged positions across accounts at different firms - most terms prohibit coordinated hedging, and it is detectable.
