Head to head

FTMO vs FundedNext

A longer track record, or a split upgrade at checkout?

Both sell a conventional 2-step with a static 10% loss cap, so the rule books are closer than the marketing suggests. The decision comes down to whether FundedNext's paid split upgrade pays for itself at your expected profit, and whether you can live with news-window profit being discounted to 40%.

News trading

FTMO
RestrictedNews trading is unrestricted during the evaluation. On a Standard FTMO Account you may not open or close trades on the affected instruments from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after selected high-impact releases, though positions opened earlier can be held through them. Swing accounts have no news restriction.
FundedNext
RestrictedNews trading is allowed during the Stellar 2-Step challenge. On the funded account, only 40% of profit made within five minutes either side of a listed high-impact release is counted. FundedNext's futures accounts have no news trading restriction.

EAs and algos

FTMO
AllowedEAs and algorithmic trading are allowed if the trading is legitimate and could be replicated on a live account. A third-party EA risks breaching the maximum capital allocation when other traders run the same strategy, and an EA that sends more than 2,000 server requests a day is a forbidden practice.
FundedNext
RestrictedOn CFD accounts, EAs and bots are allowed only on MT4 and MT5 accounts below $50,000, with a paid EA add-on. Accounts of $50,000 and above, and all cTrader and Match-Trader accounts, must be traded manually. Each EA must run its own strategy, capped at $300,000, and EAs built to pass prop challenges are banned. On futures accounts, EAs and bots are allowed in the challenge and once funded if each is set up for your own strategy and does not place identical trades across accounts; EAs linked to apps such as Telegram or WhatsApp, latency abuse and order flooding are banned.

Copy trading

FTMO
RestrictedAccounts are for personal use only: no third party may trade your account or trade in coordination with you. Running an identical strategy across several accounts is subject to the $400,000 maximum capital allocation.
FundedNext
RestrictedOn CFD accounts, copying is allowed between your own FundedNext challenge accounts, up to $300,000 combined with one account set as the master. Copying between accounts owned by different people, including family and friends or through cloud copy tools, is prohibited. On futures accounts, you may copy between your own FundedNext accounts and your own accounts at other prop firms, registered in the same name; signal services and group trading are prohibited.

Weekend holding

FTMO
RestrictedPositions may be held over the weekend during the evaluation and on Swing accounts. A Standard FTMO Account must be flat shortly before the weekend market close.
FundedNext
AllowedPositions may be held over the weekend on Stellar 1-Step, 2-Step and Lite accounts, in the challenge and once funded. Futures positions must be closed by 3:10 PM CT every trading day, so none are held over the weekend.

Overnight holding

FTMO
RestrictedPositions may be held overnight during the evaluation and on Swing accounts. On a Standard FTMO Account they must be closed before any market break (rollover) lasting longer than two hours.
FundedNext
AllowedPositions may be held overnight on every CFD account type. Swap charges apply on swap accounts and count toward the daily loss. Futures positions still open at 3:10 PM CT are closed automatically, and trading reopens at 5:00 PM CT.

Hedging

FTMO
RestrictedOpposite positions are allowed within a single account. Holding them across connected accounts or with other traders is forbidden, as is hedging used to spread profit across days to get round the Best Day Rule.
FundedNext
RestrictedOn CFD accounts, hedging is allowed only within the same account; hedging or group hedging across accounts is prohibited. On futures accounts, offsetting positions in the same or a correlated contract are prohibited within one account and across accounts, as is coordinating opposite trades with other traders.

Country restrictions

FTMO
75 listedFTMO excludes nationals and residents of Iran, Syria, Myanmar and North Korea, though nationals of the first three can be accepted with proof of residency and a bank account in the European Economic Area. The rest of the list is a risk-based exclusion by country of residence. Clients in the United States are served by FTMO US, and clients in Australia through an affiliated FTMO entity.

Beyond the numbers

Which one should you buy?

Our assessment of each, labelled as opinion. If the two lists below point at different firms, the honest answer is that you should buy the one whose rules your strategy needs.

FTMO

If your priority is a long operating record, FTMO has run evaluations since 2015, earlier than any other CFD firm we have a founding year for. You pay for that with news restrictions that rule out a whole class of strategies. Traders chasing the highest headline split will find higher numbers elsewhere.

Suitable for

  • Traders who weight firm longevity above headline split
  • Swing traders who want a static drawdown line
  • Anyone planning to scale capital over years rather than months

Less suitable if

  • Your edge is trading economic releases
  • You want the cheapest possible entry ticket

FundedNext

FundedNext is worth a spreadsheet rather than a glance. Once you price the split upgrade against your expected profit, the headline 95% often stops being the deciding factor - and the underlying 2-Step rules are ordinary in a good way: static drawdown, no time limit, 5% daily. Buy it for the program range and the fast payout cycles, not for the marketing number.

Suitable for

  • Traders who want a small account to test a firm cheaply
  • Traders who value fast payout cycles
  • EA traders on MetaTrader accounts under $50K

Less suitable if

  • Your CFD strategy depends on release-window profit
  • You want a single simple product rather than a program menu

FTMO vs FundedNext questions

Is FTMO or FundedNext cheaper?

FundedNext publishes its fees in US dollars and FTMO in euros. PropScouting does not convert currencies, so a like-for-like price comparison is not possible here. Check each firm for its current fee.

Which has the better drawdown rules, FTMO or FundedNext?

FTMO allows 10% total loss on a static basis with a 5% daily limit. FundedNext allows 10% on a static basis with a 5% daily limit.

Which pays a higher profit split?

FTMO pays more, up to 90% against 80%. Check whether the headline figure is included or a paid upgrade - the matrix above flags which.

Which allows news trading?

FTMO: News trading is unrestricted during the evaluation. On a Standard FTMO Account you may not open or close trades on the affected instruments from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after selected high-impact releases, though positions opened earlier can be held through them. Swing accounts have no news restriction. FundedNext: News trading is allowed during the Stellar 2-Step challenge. On the funded account, only 40% of profit made within five minutes either side of a listed high-impact release is counted. FundedNext's futures accounts have no news trading restriction.

Can I trade both firms at once?

Yes, and traders often do to diversify rule risk. The one thing to avoid is running correlated or hedged positions across accounts at different firms - most terms prohibit coordinated hedging, and it is detectable.
